just a simple introduction in japanese happy.gif
i'll first write all the japanese basics for you~ it'll be harder and harder=P
In japanese theres 3 kinds of alphabets. Hiragana,Katakana, and Kanji. Hiragana and Katakana are the same pronunciations except that Katakana is used words like hamburger -hanbagaa,Coffee -Kohi,etc..words that sound alike in english.... Hiragana letters are basically used in everything.. only names, and words that sound alike in english will be written in Katakana.. Kanji is the chinese character u often see sometimes in japanese..

 | the use of ichi, ni , san, .... as counting is for numbers (or counting when doing something. ex. training exercise). for counting of different things is stated below: -つ(tsu) endings are used for items/objects/things. ¨' ex. hitotsu, futatsu, ..... -人(nin) is used for people/persons. ex. hitori, futari, sannin, .... -番(ban) is used for order. (the first/second/... ) ex. ichiban, niban, ..... -枚(mai) is for thin and flat things. (shirts are placed here and not in the "chaku" for clothes) ex. ichimai, nimai, .... -台(dai), for machines and vehicles. ex. ichidai, nidai, .... -歳(sai) is for age. ex. issai, nisai, ..... -冊(satsu), notebooks and books. ex. issatsu, nisatsu, .... -着(chaku), for clothes. ex. icchaku, nichaku, .... -回(kai), for frequency (number of times) ex. ikkai, nikai, sankai, .... -個(ko), small things. ex. ikko, niko, .... -足(soku), for shoes and socks. ex. issoku, nisoku, sanzoku, .... -軒(ken) for houses. ex. ikken, niken, sangen, .... -階(kai) for floors of a building. (you might notice that "kai" was used for frequency, therefore a different kanji is used to separate them) ex. ikkai, nikai, sangai, .... -本(hon), thin and long things. ex. ippon, nihon, sanbon, .... -杯(hai) for drinks and things alike in cups and glasses. ex. ippai, nihai, sanbai, ..... -匹(hiki) for small animals, fish and insects. ex. ippiki, nihiki, sanbiki, ....
you might've noticed that some number change the endings (for ex. ippai, sanbai, roppai, happai, juppai, juupai) and this is merely because of the fact to soften the pronounciation. because it's easier to, for example, say ippai than to say ichihai. but also as you might have seen. not every ending change the counting. (for ex. ichimai, nimai, sanmai, yonmai, .....)
for the time question: ku ji is as already answered 9 o'clock ku jikan is 9 hours -間(kan) is used for duration. ex. isshuukan (一週間) translates into one week |
 | Ah~~~ there's something you got wrong about katakana. it's not just for words that sound the same in english. katakana is used for all foreign words. if japan doesn't have it's own name for it then it keeps the original name from whatever language it's in and they write it in katakana. ^^; |
 | oO there's spelling errors too >.< haha i'm probably annoying you **>>i speak moderate japanese<<** |
